Inclusive Outdoor Clothing
Navigating the active outdoor wear market is bloody hard as a fat person. Most brands don't make up to my size and even if they do, it's not in physical stores so I can't check the fit for my body. So instead I, like many fat people, get stuck in a horrible and uncomfortable loop of wanting to be active and get outdoors but unable to find appropriate apparel limits my access to healthy fulfilling outdoor fun!
As a maker you would think I could mitigate this pretty well myself, but, getting access to specialist rugged outdoor fabrics isnt easy, let alone patterns which fit my needs and size band.
A new pattern company called Sew Outdoorsy has just launched it's first pattern and I am so excited for their future and the patterns they will release but for right now I need solutions.
I've started pinning and searching for outfit inspo which I have compiled below for your viewing pleasure but also a list of outdoor activewear brands which go above a size 20 Australian. I know, big ask!
So what do I want in my outdoor adventure wardrobe?
- Beathable lightweight pants for hiking in.
- Half zip pullover
- Merino baselayer
- Linen long sleeve shirt
- High waist shorts
- Down puffer vest
- Flannel shirt
- Shacket
Current list of size 20 plus retailers, please comment below if you have any other suggestions so I can expand my list.

MacPac
MAcPAc has a limited range which goes up to a size 24. I have actually bought a puffer vest and hiking pants from MacPac so I'mm looking forward to seeing how they fit but unfortunately they did not have the extended sizing last time I went instore so I have no idea. It was a LOT of money to spend on clothes I haven't tried on.
Alpine Parrot
